Read Time:3 Minute, 21 Second

Halloo,

Don’t be scared, I am not here to alarm you. I don’t wish death on you either. I just want to make a quick point. If mentioning death is a little too much for you to stomach, I apologize.

The point I want to make is simple- It is time to start doing those things you wish to do in your lifetime. Now, is the time.

Pretend you are on your deathbed and you have a chance to look back on your life. What is that thing you wished you had done?

If deathbed is too dramatic, pretend you are old and you are looking back at your life, what are those things or a particular thing you wished you did in your younger years?

Start doing those things now.

Many of us look at our elders, grandparents, or any old people in our lives as being full of wisdom. Mostly because of their experiences having lived longer than us.

I think some of the wise words they passed down come from them wishing they did some things differently.

I think we can transport ourselves into the final stage of life, in our mind, and have a mental picture of what it will be like, and what our regrets may be.

Listening to our souls right now can be very helpful in this process. Our souls are always telling us something crucial. If only we can properly listen. I know shutting out noise is not easy, especially with so many distractions from technology and other worldly things.

We have to listen though. Properly listen. Many people are making lots of money and yet are not happy or satisfied. They are not necessarily greedy or ungrateful. They are yet to feed their souls what their souls really want.

You may have been doing what society expects from you, what your family want from you, what you need to do to put food on the table. If you feel something is still missing whilst doing all these, it is missing.

I know that on my deathbed, given the chance to look back I probably have a thing or two I would wish I did. But those things I can think of right now I am taking steps to do them.

There are so many other things that my soul needs but financially I am not able actualise at the moment. I keep them on hold. If by chance I went to my maker without doing then, I am sure the regret from not being able to do them will be less as the circumstance is beyond my control.

At some point in my life, I hope to adopt a child. It has been a dream of mine for a very long time. I hope I get to do it before I die.

There are other things that I do right now that are soul foods. I may not have much and have many challenges but I try to feed my soul. I think it makes me happier than I would have been without doing them.

So my point is simple, take some time to quiet the noise around you and listen to your soul. Pretend you are on your deathbed and look back at your life, what are those things you wish you had done? Go do them now. If deathbed is too scary for you to imagine, pretend you are your grandfather or grandmother and give yourself some sage advice.

If it is a book, you have been wishing to write, start writing it. If going on a pilgrimage is what your soul is demanding, get up and go. If you dream of volunteering for prison work, start taking steps towards it. Your soul will never stop demanding what it wants until you satisfy its cravings. Happiness is the reward for listening to your soul.

Life is too short to be unhappy.
