Halloo,

Ageing is part of life, no need to despair. If you had spent your youth properly, getting older will be a blessing. No matter how privileged we feel to live longer nobody wants the physical signs of ageing to show, especially prematurely.

Signs of ageing can be delayed. We can still maintain a glowing complexion and avoid skin pigmentations, fine lines, wrinkles, dry taut skin, blackheads, sagging skin, and many other signs of ageing.

My Skincare Routine is part of my Self-Care. Ruka's Place.

Striving to delay the ageing signs is not vanity. Our skin is our body’s largest organ, we want our skin to look, feel good, and be healthy. We may not be able to use skincare products to turn back time, but we can definitely use them to pause it.

Older matured skin needs skincare products that will aid the production of new cells, suppress pigmentation, speed up wound healing, and preserve and promote the production of collagen. In other words, products that will delay or reverse the ageing process.

Let’s look at some…

Moisturiser is your skin’s best friend.

A great moisturiser is our defence against ageing. As we age our skin and hair start becoming very dry because our sebaceous glands are producing less sebum. Using a good moisturiser will provide hydration and prevents loss of moisture too. Everyone needs a daily moisturiser, even those with oily skin. Find a good one for your skin type if you want your skin to remain youthful-looking.

Collagen is an essential protein that is responsible for your skin’s firmness and elasticity.

Collagen provides the strength the skin needs to prevent and reduce ageing signs. As we age, our body begins to produce less collagen and elastin. This is also the stage where our body begins to break down collagen, elastin, and fat stores, a major contributor to thin and sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Look for skincare products that can stimulate collagen production, especially products rich in Antioxidants.

Let’s talk about Antioxidants

Antioxidants help counteract signs of ageing by holding off environmental damage to cells which can lead to damage to collagen and elastin. It can also slow down the production of melanin which is a major cause of skin darkening in appearance.

It is all about Exfoliating

Nothing ages the skin more than the build-up of dead skin. This leads to skin looking dull and it also prevents skincare products from delivering desired results. Our skin is constantly regenerating, with new skin cells pushing their way through to the surface. Naturally, the skin carries out this process by itself, but as we age the skin begins to lose its ability to do so, it needs help. That help is Exfoliation. Exfoliating is important. This is how we remove the layer of dead cells from our body to reveal new cells which are fresh, bright, and healthy.

Facial Masks

Facial Masks are important in slowing signs of ageing. This is an effective method of feeding our skin with more nutrients than our daily skincare routine can accommodate. iiiiFacial Masks can be made from a wide variety of ingredients at home to achieve whatever your skincare needs are. For matured skin Vitamin-C is the miracle worker here, masks rich in vitamin c will do wonders. For If you are struggling with pigmentations, sun spots, blemish scars, or age spots, instead of damaging your skin with those harsh chemical-filled skin-lightening creams, why not try making facial masks with these ingredients Almond, honey, milk, tomatoes, potatoes, lemon, or orange peel. Read my post on natural skin-lightening ingredients here.

Natural skincare products that are emollient are the best.

Natural Skincare Products are the best. I am living proof that they not only deliver results but they improve your health and well-being.

Mature skin needs natural skincare products that are emollient. These types of products will moisturise, prevent irritations, and add a protective layer on the top of the skin that can keep in moisture. This is a sure way to hydrate and strengthen the skin, and improve its tone, and elasticity.

Know Your Acids

If you want to improve your skin and fight signs of ageing from showing prematurely you need to get to know skincare ingredients like Retinol, Vitamin C, Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Citric Acid, Ferulic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, and so forth.

Simple Skincare Products

Start taking care of your skin as early as possible, and encourage your young wards to do the same. Most people opting for aggressive harsh skincare products which have the potential to irritate their skin and cause grave danger to their health did not take heed of this advice early. Skincare products are supposed to be beauty products, not medicine or drugs, their advantage lies in gentle and gradual results. Looking for miracles in them is dangerous. Stick with simple skincare solutions that work gradually, this causes no damage to you. Ageing signs do not just suddenly appear, so the solution too should be slow and steady. Be sensible!

Keep skin away from too much direct sunlight.

Wear proper and adequate sunscreen all the time. Sunshine is great for our mood and production of Vitamin D, but do it without compromising your health and ageing your body prematurely. UV rays and others from sunshine contribute to premature ageing. Let’s make a conscious effort to protect and prevent this.

Thorough Cleansing Daily

Let me tell you this in case you don’t know- Pollution and other environmental toxins can accelerate the ageing process. Honestly, it is the truth!

That is why it is important to thoroughly clean your skin, especially at night before going to bed. Think about it, daily commutes bring us in contact with different kinds of environmental pollution, there is also build-up from makeup, skincare products, and many more. If we don’t clean all these off our body, we are inviting skin problems and more importantly premature ageing.

Don’t leave a message out

Massaging our faces with natural carrier oils will not only stimulate blood flow and circulation but also relieve any muscle tension and deeply cleanse our skin. Natural carrier oils are particularly great for drier skin types. Find out the natural for your skin type here.

What more can I say?

Drink lots of water to help keep the skin hydrated. Make sure you sleep well. Increase your intake of fruits and fibre. Do take good quality vitamins to supplement your diet. Stress ages people faster than any other factor, stay far away from it. Exercise regularly and keep active.

I am sure you have heard it all before, are you practising them though? All these can only prevent premature ageing of the skin if you practice them. Don’t do them once in a while and expect results, you have to make them a daily habit.
