Halloo,

Dry skin is a big problem for most people. The skin that is prone to dryness peels, feels rough and can be very itchy. I am speaking from experience.

While other people can go swimming whenever they want without any repercussions those of us with dry skin can’t. We can’t even soak in the bath for long without the skin toughening.

In summer Dry skin suffers by drying out because of sweating in the heat. You will think that winter will be a better time, alas no. Cold air plays havoc with dry skin. Dry air with low humidity because of indoor heating is another problem. It is a never-ending circle.

Most of us inherit our dry skin and can’t do much in the way of prevention, we can only manage it and make ourselves as comfortable as possible. But some people that aren’t born with dry skin are making lifestyle decisions that are leading to them having dry skin. This is preventable.

Prevent Dry Skin By Doing The Following:

1- Use Mild Natural Soap on the skin- Mild soaps are the best for any skin type. Harsh soaps or harsh cleanser are damaging especially to skin prone to dryness.

2-Make sure you use Non-Alcohol based Moisturizer- The first step is to make sure you use a deeply hydrating moisturiser which contain no alcohol, because alcohol strips the skin of its natural oils. The plant-based body butter is the best. The greasier the moisturiser the better. Even if you are using a lotion or cream, finish it off by sealing with body butter.

3-Apply a generous amount of moisturizers 2-3 times daily- Don’t limit the application of moisturizer to only mornings. Reapply as often as you can daily. Doing this creates a layer over the skin that physically prevents water from evaporating.

4-Best to apply your moisturiser while the skin is wet– Not dripping wet mind you. Wet like the skin after taking a bath and towelling. If you want to apply moisturiser without taking a shower just wet your skin and dry, then apply. A good protective moisturiser containing natural oils is the best, it helps the skin stay soft for a long time.

5-Please shower properly after swimming and moisturise immediately– This will prevent dryness. Another tip is not to stay too long in swimming pools or baths, and showers.

6-Use warm water to bath– Extremely cold or hot water will damage the skin. It is very easy to take a hot bath in cold weather, but the damages to your skin can be irreparable.

7-Avoid too much heating in your house in winter– Heaters dry out the air in our homes. Dry air at home dries the skin. Why not dress warmly instead?

8-Wear hand gloves in winter- This is to protect your hands from the cold and it’s drying effects on your hands.

9-Don’t forget to moisturize each time you wash your hand– We wash hands often during the day but we never follow it up with moisturizer as we should. To keep out dryness moisturize every time you wash your hands and every part of your body.

10-Avoid Alcohol-based hand sanitizers- These are very drying like any skincare products that contain alcohol. Use mild sanitizers, especially those made with completely natural ingredients.

11-Exfoliating is crucial– Exfoliating is important for everyone, it is a great way to rejuvenate the skin. This to slough off dead skin and leaving the skin smoother, radiant, and younger looking. This also stimulate blood circulation on the skin. It also helps your moisturiser and other skincare products penetrate more and hydrate further as the dead skin cells are no longer present.

12-Drink plenty of water daily- Recommended is 2 litres of water daily for adequate hydration. It is amazing how many of us forget to drink water frequently on a daily basis. This is a simple way to prevent dry skin, dry scalp, and poor health.

13-Eat balanced nourishing food- Eating good healthy food is one of the best ways to fight any problem, skincare or otherwise. There are food and supplements that can help people look younger just by hydrating the skin from inside the body.

14-Rest and stay stress-free- This is well known, but we must never get tired of saying it anyway. Stress ages people. Staying in a stressful situation is not going to help your skin hydration.
