Halloo,
Dark circles around the eyes are one of the major problems of women. It is notoriously hard to get rid of or conceal effectively. We all want that bright open eye look. Nobody wants bags under their eyes.
Bright eyes, bright skin, bright everything is all we dream of. Lifting those dark circles are a must to achieve this coveted brightness. That is why many people just hide their dark circles while waiting for a miracle to clear them.
We desperately want anything that can help mask or remove the appearance of these dark circles. Some people even choose products that are supposed to lighten the appearance of these circles with no joy. Most of us follow all the advice given by experts on how to treat dark circles but find little or no result. Why?
I read an interesting article recently that claimed that most of us never stopped to think about the type of dark circles we have. News to me too as I am guilty of this. I never take into consideration that there are different types of under-eye circles and treating them might differ. See how easy to miss a trick?
But now, those who know more about this say knowing which type of dark circle you have will help in choosing the best treatments. I think that makes perfect sense. Don’t you think so?
Types of Dark Circles
Dark Skin Tone
The type of dark circles among us black people, the Mediterranean, and the Indians are hyperpigmentations. This is usually around the under eye and lid area. The skin of the eye area appears really darker than the skin of other parts of the face. This is as a result of excess melanin production.

Light Skin Tone
Lighter skin tone suffers from the type of dark circles caused by translucent skin, which is the thin skin that allows veins underneath the skin and tendons to show. This makes the skin of that area appear darker.
Treatment
- The best treatment for translucent skin is prevention by using proper sunscreen daily. Read more about Sunscreen here
- Eye Creams containing Retinoid (also called Retinol or Vitamin-A) are believed to help reverse and prevent skin thinning.
- Some people use laser treatments to stimulate collagen growth.
- Surgery
- Moisturizing the skin can make it more supple and less likely to break.
- Eating a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and proteins. Drinking enough water to keep the skin hydrated. And Sleep properly.
All Skin Tone
There is a type of dark circles that can appear on any skin tone, this is the Tear Trough Hollowness Dark Circles. The Sunken appearance resulting in tired-looking eyes. This is a situation where there is a loss of supportive fat under the eye. This is the one that looks like a shadow under the eye.
