It really gladdens my heart to see that the stigma associated with mental health is slowly fading out. There is still a lot of work to be done, especially in certain communities where traditional beliefs are still being held on too tightly.
But the good news is that more and more people are becoming more aware of what mental health problems are and that it can be a part of Our daily life. That having a mental health problem is not due to some things you did wrong or something to be ashamed of. No one needs to put a brave face on when they are struggling unless they want to.
I really don’t want to sound preachy or alarmed anyone, but research says that one in four of us will struggle with mental health problems at one point or another. So, we must keep reminding ourselves that everybody breaks, not to be ashamed of our mental health struggles. We are not alone.
Speak to someone you are comfortable talking to, it could be a confidant, your GP, or a counsellor.
Acknowledge there is a problem and take the bold steps of getting help. The same way you do with your physical health, if you have stomach cramps for days, you will book an appointment with your GP to check what the problem is. Do the same if you are feeling low and finding it hard to cope. Call for help. Start with your GP if you have no one to confide in.
When you are at your lowest ebb for no known reason, having negative thoughts, a sense of hopelessness, lack of motivation, no interest in what is going on around you, no interest in life, feeling worthless, indifferent to things that used to give you joy, trapped in a dark place that you can’t come out of. You need to get comfortable with expressing how you feel. CALL FOR HELP!
Please don’t feel like a failure because of these emotions. Everybody, even men, breaks. Sometimes the best coping method can be simply asking for help, talking about it, and be brave to know that this isn’t how you used to be.
Suffering from any type of mental health is not the end of the world, yes, it can be life-changing, but many great people suffered one type of mental health problems or another. Everybody breaks. You won’t be the first neither will you be the last.

Remember, early diagnosis means early treatment. Early treatment means it may not turn into something big, or worse; not treatable. Talk to someone close to you. Choose someone you are sure will understand and gives you a shoulder to lean on. We all breakdown at one point or another.
There are medications that can help. You can change your whole lifestyle by becoming more active. You can start talking candidly to someone close to you if you have someone you trust completely. You can start seeing a counsellor for therapy. You can find ways to properly relax. You can start with practising mindfulness, yoga or pilate. You can start looking into your approach to self-care. You can find ways to avoid stress and stressful situations. You can have a holistic approach to your mental and physical health, that is what I do.
Do something to help yourself. At first, it would seem all pointless, but you will start seeing the result soon. I promise you; I am speaking from experience. I went through a period when everything was just pointless. I was so fed up. Each day is still a struggle, but I can recognise the symptoms faster now, and do something about them before they turned into major problems.
You may never heal completely, but you can draw on your adversity and turn it into power. You can use it to make a more meaningful life for yourself. Don’t despair, please. Keep pushing against the tide until you start seeing the surface.
Whether you want to heal in private or in public make sure it is your decision. Don’t do anything to impress anybody, choose privacy because that is what you want not because of shame. One of the best things I did for myself is to open up and write about my challenges with fibromyalgia. It is very liberating. I find it helpful, but it may not be the route for everyone.
No one is immune to mental health issues. No matter how rich, popular, or how great the person’s life looks to you. What most people are doing is managing it in their own way. Start your own road to better mental health too. You are not alone. Everybody breaks.
EVERYBODY BREAKS Mental Health Problems Affect Us All. I just want to quickly point out to us all that nobody is immune to mental health problems. Consider this before you use mental health issues to bully, abuse, belittle, curse, jibe, joke, jest, or slander anybody.
