Halloo,
‘You bloggers are the worst people to confide in, nothing said to you in confidence is safe. You will blog even your own parents if it will bring you audience’
This is what I heard from someone a while back. Before I start please can I ask ‘Is this what you think of bloggers too?’. Ahhhh! Perish the thought, please.
There are so many things wrong with the above statement that I don’t even know where to start from. Nothing can be more further from the truth than this statement.
But, I think the first thing each and everyone one of us needs to do is to find out what blogging is.
According to Wikipedia- A blog (at first) is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries (posts). Blog’ and ‘blogging’ are now loosely used for content creation and sharing on social media, especially when the content is long-form and one creates and shares content on a regular basis. So, one could be maintaining a blog on Facebook or blogging on Instagram.
Nowhere in the above explanation did Wikipedia says Blogging is just about gossip or sensationalism. My interpretation, correct me in the comment section below.
Yes, there are a lot of nuisances on social media calling themselves bloggers and doing nothing but bullying and spreading false information in the name of blogging. Putting every blogger into this category is wrong. There are clean blogs that do nothing but share facts, educative, and motivating contents. Please let’s separate them properly.
Also, if you assumed that all blogs are about sensational news then you are an ignorant person. There are so many types of blogs as there are topics and subjects. Each blog as its purpose, not all blogs or bloggers do the same thing.

I also heard these two so-called bloggers having a dispute on Facebook and one of them was asking the other how many dignitaries has she interviewed on her blog. When did this become a yardstick for blogging? I must have missed the brief.
I started a blog because I love writing. I decided the way to further develop my writing skills is through a blog. I hardly do videos. I have never interviewed anybody, celebrity or not. Does that make me less of a blogger than others? I think not.
Most of these charlatans claiming to be bloggers don’t create any original contents. All they do is copy and paste the work of others. They will sit on social media all day bullying others while claiming they have the right to do so because they are bloggers.
Who can blame them? They have the audience who make them believe that they must be doing something right. Entertaining as it may be, blogging it is not. Note the difference.
The reality of blogging is serious hard-work. The research, planning, and time-consuming process it takes to bring contents out on a regular basis leave you no room to mess around like your so-called Facebook bloggers.
It is not easy. Pure hard-work is needed for all types of blogging. So the assumption that I am after sensational news for my blog or being considered as one of these questionable bloggers is really an insult.
These people have lots of followers, I accept that. Would I want my contents to be viewed as much like theirs or more, definitely. Would I do anything, even degrade myself to get the audience for my blog as these people do? Hell, no!
Popularity at all cost is not my priority. I have no problem with anybody who wants to do whatever necessary to achieve their aims. Good luck to them if they are not hurting me or anybody else. But I draw the line at being considered as one of them.
It is not easy to grab attention of people and maintain it these days, the competition is stiff. Most bloggers have to keep looking for new tactics to achieve this. So resorting to bullying and defamation of characters of innocent people to create juicy gossip is what sells according to some bloggers. I, Ruka of Ruka’s Place is not in that game.
Where I am headed is still far. I am just scratching the surface of my goals. Becoming a Social Media Celebrity is not in my plan. I want to be known for something with integrity and not famous for nothing, or looking for notoriety at all costs.
Yes, there may be money to be made from doing all these shenanigans on social networks. But remember our goals are different, let those who want go that route do so. Up to them. Beware if you want to go this way that most of the images these so-called bloggers present online do not reflect their realities. They look confident when they are anything but.
Blogging, contrary to what you may have been led to believe is not glamorous. It won’t turn you into a celebrity overnight. You are not just going to start making money from it straightaway. It is completely unrelenting hard-work.
I love blogging. It helps me improve my writing skills, increase my confidence, make me research more, and it also helps people believe in me, have faith, and trust in me.
I have enjoyed many benefits because of blogging about well-being, mental health, self-care, natural skincare, and happiness. I get recognized. I do get some gifts. I also got 2 awards of recognition. I am very grateful that my little efforts are not going unnoticed. I try in my own little way to give back too.
Blogging requires great contents (writing, videos, audios, images). Bloggers need to be creative in order to keep coming up with engaging contents for their audience. And Bloggers still have to promote their contents so the relevant people can see them. It is time-consuming job.
So if your idea of who a blogger is someone who goes around exposing other people’s secrets or a nuisance on social media, please take a look at my profile and contents and see that some bloggers do have something worth sharing.

Ruka
