Halloo,
Have you ever heard anything about African Camwood Powder? No? Let me tell you a little bit about it and its greatness in Skincare.
Growing up in Lagos, Nigeria I see newborn babies being massaged with Shea Butter (Ori) mixed with Camwood Powder (Osun) for the first few weeks of their lives. This is because babies’ skin is so sensitive and can easily get rashes, dry scaly skin, eczema, dermatitis, and any other skin problems. This mixture of Shea Butter and Camwood Powder is used to make sure babies are protected from such. And to treat babies who may already have it. You hardly see such babies with a Nappy rash.
So if it is good enough for a newborn, why not us?
My Mum told us, her children, stories of Yoruba Princesses and Queens having flawless skin because they stay in bed all day after being dusted all over with camwood powder by their maids. So if princesses can cover up with camwood powder to beautify themselves, why not us? Obviously okay for them as they don’t have to do any work. But their skin will glow though so we can aim for that.
Now those who love to read and like the work of great late Chinua Achebe will remember him mentioning on several occasion in his books, especially ‘Things Fall Apart’ the use of Camwood to beautify faces by the Ibos.
See why you should care about Camwood Powder?
I mention all these examples and situations to tell you that Camwood Powder is a very useful natural ingredient when you are thinking of achieving flawless skin. The amazing benefits of this African wonder are numerous- Why not read The Many benefits of Camwood Powder in Skincare
To deal with dry-skin, acne, signs of ageing, pimples, discolourations, and so on. You should be looking at this 100% natural ingredient from the heart of Africa.
If you a professional Soap-Maker or simply love making soaps for personal use, this is an ingredient worth considering. A popular soap brand in Nigeria ‘Dudu Osun’ is based on Camwood and Black Soap, widely known for its effectiveness in clearing skin up.
You don’t even have to be a soap maker or make soaps to enjoy camwood in your favourite soap. Just add a little of this gorgeous powder to your liquid soap, or mix with black soap using this method.
A fast way to also enjoy camwood powder is by adding a little to your face scrub, this can achieve while making the scrub, or simply add to your store-bought face scrub.
Camwood Powder can also be added to a face cream or body cream. This can be done while making your cream, or simply add to your favourite cream.
Why not keep it super simple like they do with babies? Simply melt some shea butter in double-boiler add some camwood powder to it, let it cool for a while, when it is semi-solid, whisk the living the heck out of it, add a little essential oil of your choice if you wish, or if you find the smell a bit strong for you.
For instant face brightening just take 2 tablespoons of brown granulated sugar, add one teaspoon of Camwood powder, one teaspoon of honey, a tablespoon of almond oil, mix together and scrub your face with it, wash off with warm water and soap. Instant velvety feel and bright face.
Mixing Camwood powder with just water to make a face mud is great for those with sensitive skin but want to treat acne. I am yet to meet anybody who said they have adverse reactions from this.
Or be like the princesses, get a friend to dust you over with camwood powder and sit around all day doing nothing- well, making your skin glow is something, right?
Remember as always that nothing works unless we are consistent with it. The results to be achieved from using camwood powder is numerous but you to have use it religiously.
Nature works and it heals, we just have to trust it. I hope you care about Camwood Powder as a natural beauty ingredient now.
