Halloo,

Dry-skin is nobody’s best friend. It can be itchy, scaly, unsightly, and generally very very uncomfortable.

I know all about it from personal experience.

Some people have dry patches on some part of their skin, while others suffer from the whole of their body being extremely dry. Also, dry-skin in some people may occur occasionally while in others, like me, it is a permanent condition.

Read about my personal struggle with dry-skin here.

The occasional dry-skin can be cured once the cause is known and treated, but the permanently dry-skin is not that easy to deal with. Most of the people who suffer from the permanently dry-skin are born with it, maybe due to heredity or some other medical reasons.

Whatever type of dry-skin you may have, these 10 simple tips will help you manage it easily, they helped me a lot.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER

Water is a Gift from Nature, it is great for the skin and our general well-being.

Water is there in abundance to give thirsty skin a relief. I have been doing these for years now. I make sure I drink at least 2 litres of water a day as recommended by health professionals.

I have a 2-litre bottle that I filled with water every morning, just for myself, I make sure to finish it before the day end. That is how I monitor my daily water intake.

I recently learned that by adding slices of lemon, some mint leaves, and slices of cucumber in a jug of water and left overnight before drinking is really great for getting clear skin.

care

I have started practicing this, you should too.

DON’T STAY TOO LONG IN THE SHOWER OR BATH

Before I was given this advice many years ago, I am one for taking long baths, I thought this was good for my dehydrated skin, but I was wrong, it has opposite effects. Experts say you should take short frequent Showers if you have Dry Skin. And don’t stay too long in the bath.

USE NATURAL FRAGRANCE-FREE CLEANSER(SOAPS)

The more natural you can go with soaps and other cleansers the better. Most of us like suds but our skin doesn’t. But a good natural soap like Castile Soap will still give suds and be gentle on skin. Castile soap is hydrating. Any soap you decide to go for, make sure it is as close to nature as possible. some ingredients used in making many soaps are not dry-skin friendly at all. DRY YOUR BODY GENTLY

After taking a bath it is important not to attack your body with your towel. Instead be as gentle as possible by dabbing at it. Dry skin is very delicate. I don’t even dab. I either tie my towel around me or wear my toweling robe and let my skin dry naturally.

Consistency

MOISTURIZE TWICE DAILY

Dry-skin should be moisturized immediately after bath while skin is still fresh and cool, this will help trap in moisture.

Dry-skin should be moisturised at least twice daily or more if you have the time.

I am a lover of Homemade Moisturizer, so that is what I use on my skin.

Homemade Moisturizer is the best, honestly.

In the morning and at night time is very good. Concentrate especially on the really dry part like elbows, knees, and palms.

The best moisturizers are the natural ones. You can even use just natural oils like Argan oil, Castor oil, or Vegetable Glycerine as moisturizers.

  1. AVOID HARSH CHEMICAL-FILLED SKINCARE PRODUCTS

The best Skincare products are handmade and by you. It is easy and works, I swear.

If you don’t have time to make cream or you just want to experiment to see which ingredients agree with your skin, you start by using just raw butters and Oils.

USE BODY SCRUB ONCE A WEEK

It is very important to exfoliate at least once a month, more frequent if you have to. The process of exfoliating will help remove dead skin and reveal brighter skin.

I find that new skin is more cooperative than the dead skin, it responds better to treatment, and skin doesn’t look so dry.

I love exfoliating with my homemade Camwood Powder Body Scrub

This provides great relief for thirsty skin. scrub onto wet skin and wash off. the result is amazing. You can see the recipe for this scrub here.

WATCH YOUR DIET

I should be writing everything here in a quote because, I am terrible when it comes to diet, I am the last person who should be talking about a healthy diet. I do eat fruits and vegetables but the other bad stuff I eat make those good deeds irrelevant. But hey, don’t do as I do, just do as I write.

Eat lots of Fruits and vegetables for great skin. Eat Healthy Food. Vegetables are great for healthy lifestyle.

EXERCISE REGULARLY

I am also guilty here, not into all the physical fitness stuff, but in my defense, I swim for an hour every week. I do stretches in the morning for 10 minutes. So I am not too bad, better than you? I hope anyway.

Skincare content

So I was told that exercise gets the blood pumping and once that happens the skin gets the benefits from it, it won’t be so dry, it will be clear, and youthful looking. If that doesn’t get you reaching out for your jogging shoes, then you really are worst than me.

Exercise is good for the body. Walk, run, or jog daily. Fresh air is good for health and your skin

AVOID EXTREME TEMPERATURES

I don’t know about you, but I am always cold, apparently, it has something to do with fibromyalgia. So you hardly see me without a scarf or shawl around my neck. When I am home the radiator will have to be on, I never realized that that could be contributing to my skin drying up.

Once I discovered this, I learned to use the radiator less often and double up on my items of clothing. Not easy!

Don’t leave the Radiator on for too long

So in the summer time when there is sunshine, you will think that will be happy days for me? WRONG. I hate heat. So either way, I can’t win.

For normal people, sunshine is great,  but in moderation. Don’t expose yourself so much that you get skin damages from the sun.

Moderation is always a safe bet.

For those of us living in the cold region of the world, the weather is freezing now, so we tend to leave our heating on. This is not only taking money from your pockets but also having negative impacts on our skin. Aim for warm rather than hot.

Do all these and your dry-skin will be the envy of those with normal-skin.
