Halloo,

If you knew me 7 years ago, you meet me today, you will understand that it is 2 completely different ladies standing before you. Why?

zombie

The woman I was 7 years ago was a zombie with less pain, not painless, just reduced pain.

But the woman I am today is a functioning human being with constant excruciating pain. But HUMAN!

I have no regrets whatsoever on making the decision to stop taking the pain medications prescribed by doctors. This is the life of Living with chronic pain and fibromyalgia.

My only regret is that I still have to take some of these pain medications on particularly rough days pain-wise. I really would like to dump them all and never see them again.

When you have sleep-walked through life for a number of years, not useful to yourself or those around you, I think then you will be in a better position to understand what it is to want your life back.

I am cranky, moody, and impossible to deal with sometimes. I know the drugs are supposed to calm me down and things like that, but I think I will stick with my cranky moody self.

Fight

In those dark days when I was pumped full of drugs, you will see me crawling about like a shadow, looking very pathetic, like the weight of the world was on me. I just sat back and let life do whatever it wants with me.

Until I decided to fight back!

I fought hard, really hard, to get out of that situation. Little wonder if a person or situation is threatening to drag me back to that place I cut it out. No apologies, No explanations, I just walk away. Yeah, I am brutal that way.

Let me be frank with you, without the medications, your anxiety, depression, and other associated conditions will worsen, you just have to find a way to work your way out of it.

There are days that I think I have finally cracked it, and there are days I feel like I am falling into this bottomless pit and just can’t stop myself. But I live for those days when I am just like everybody else (close to). That is what keeps me going.

If you are lucky to be surrounded by people who understand, please use them. If not support groups are a real blessing. Above all Self-care, Self-belief, and self-love is of utmost importance. Check my coping strategies here

Physical activities aren’t just for me, but I try to keep moving as much as possible. I also do stretches in the morning. Give them a go, please. You can use natural salts too, check here for info

For some, leaving pain medication is not an option, please don’t beat yourself up about it. Maybe talking to your doctor might help with the type of medication prescribed to you. You just have to keep pushing.

I think most of us won’t mind the medications and it’s numerous negative effects if only it stopped the pain. But it doesn’t, the best we can get is for those drugs to take the edge off the pain.

So, it was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make, and sometimes I doubt my sanity about this decision, but overall I think it was a good decision for me.
