Halloo,
I have been talking about my experiences with Chronic Pain and its associated problems. All along these write-ups are directed at people in similar situations, I want them to realize they are not alone.
Now, I want to talk to people who may be wondering what Chronic Pain is, or suspect they may have Chronic Pain.
Chronic Pain is by no means an unknown phenomenon. A lot of people all over the world suffer from it.
Chronic pain, according to International Association for the Study of Pain, is defined as pain that either persists beyond the point that healing would be expected to be complete (usually taken as 3-6 months) or that occurs in disease processes in which healing does not take place. The pain may be continuous or intermittent. Chronic pain can be experienced by those who do not have evidence of tissue damage or biological reason for pain.
As far as I know- Chronic Pain is that type of Pain that one feels persistently over a period of time. It can be continuous or it can be recurrent.
The Continuous Pain is that Pain that is constant, permanently there and the sufferer gets no off-time. While the Recurrent Pain is that type of Pain that comes and goes frequently.
For so many people the cause of their pain is known, it may be due to an illness such as Cancer, Arthritis, or other sicknesses. It may be due to conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Headaches. Or some Occupational Hazards.
The most harrowing one, in my opinion, is that Chronic Pain which is caused by no known reasons.
Chronic Pain can occur in any part of the body. It could be arms, legs, wrist, breast, back, chest, rib cage, head. The list is endless.
These are the general information about Chronic Pain.
Now my chronic Pain comes in my right rib cage. The Doctors can’t decide whether it is coming from the bones, muscles, or anywhere else. It is a mystery. Up till this minute no known cause of this pain, except that it might be due to me having FIBROMYALGIA.
It is mostly like someone is jolting me with an electric shock. A very observant person will notice me suddenly jerk or start (Like I have been startled) that is me getting a pain.
The pain comes like a hot sharp iron being pressed into my rib-cage frequently.
Each episode could last for a few seconds or for days. I have absolutely no control over it. It comes when it feels like and leave when it wants. That is why I said it must be ‘A girl’ in my blog post ‘My Beef with Chronic Pain’
Remember this is just my own experience, chronic pain comes in different forms to different people. So each person’s experience may be similar but never the same.
What we all, Chronic Illness Warriors, have in common is what our different illnesses caused in our lives, and the lives of those around us.
It is a battle to get people to take you seriously because you have no wound to show for a pain so serious that some people are committing suicide to escape it. Because they have had enough.
So please remember to be kind to people around you who are suffering. Try not to take their crankiness to heart, understand that their mood swings have absolutely nothing to do with you. They are facing a huge battle that is not visible to anyone.
I am going to write very soon about the little things I do that I feel help with this condition.
Please remember to share your experiences with me, and your coping strategies too. I am always happy to know that I am not alone in this.
