Halloo,
Here comes the fun part of starting a new business!
Yeah? Hold on to that thought!
You probably have your online business name picked out? And alternative names if the first one isn’t doing it for you? How exciting!
Sounds so interesting and exciting until all the relevant names you really like and which suit your business perfectly aren’t available to you. All your dream names are taken. Especially if you want it to be .com and not prepared to settle for anything else, like me.
You think I am exaggerating? Think of some names, even silly ones, and Google them.
Am I right or not?
Some people are making a living out of thinking up online names and buying the rights to them. So, if you want it badly enough, be prepared to shell out some money for it.
I wanted a lot of names and I was upset with them not being available. But pay to acquire the names? ME??? NO WAY!
After a lot of tears and headaches, I chose to call my Online Business Ruka’s Place. At first, it was supposed to be a working name, something temporary. so I can move on to some other pressing matter in starting my online business. But it stuck and my clients like it, so I let it be.
I even did a survey on the name and more than 70% of the people surveyed chose Ruka’s Place. I have since added Earthy Skincare to it, to capture what we are about.
Realistically A Good Online business should have a name that states what the business is all about. This helps potential customers know they are in the right place. Also, it gives a great advantage to your business for marketing, SEO, and search engines recognition.
Think about what your target audience will be searching for when looking for your products or services online.
Remember there are people out there who do not know you or your business, all they are searching for is a particular thing. If this happens to be your product then you want to be the first to be seen by that person. A relevant name can help with that. (To be first on search engine result goes way deeper than that) I am just giving you an example.
I know this may negate what has been said earlier but please do make your Business name POP!
There are some business names that are way too long, or filled with hyphens and underscores that it will be almost impossible for people to remember.
Ask the Business Owner why the name is so long and complicated, and the answer will probably be:
‘I want the name to be relevant to what my business is.’
Fair enough, but don’t you want people to remember how to find you online?
After all, www.Apple.com sells Computers and not Apples. Last time I checked they are making billions.
It is not easy to choose a business name. You have to consider so many factors. As always I aim for simplicity. I strongly suggest you do same.
So, Choose an Online Business Name that is:
- Short
- Simple
- Relevant
- Elegant
- and Memorable
Good luck with that!!!!
You are going to need it.
