Halloo,
Have you heard? It is a victory for ‘CHOICE’. We voted yesterday the 25th of May 2018 and the results are in-
The majority of the people in Ireland voted to repeal the 8th amendment. I am delighted.
Having said that it is time to sit back and look at the way the whole episode played out. It really was an eye-opening period for me.
You see when I first heard that there is going to be a referendum on the 8th amendment I was furious, I thought the government should just change it and be done with it. Shows how little I know about Government and politics.
I knew some people feel this law should be kept but I did not realize how emotionally attached they are to this idea.
I decided quite late in the debate to put my view out there. I was prepared for some abuse especially from my religious crowd.
Despite my being prepared I still got quite a shock from the level of attack and abuse I got.
But that is not the most surprising part. What shocked me the most is people telling me to vote yes if I want to but don’t go about announcing it to the world.
I tell you now, I definitely prefer the abuse to that. Some of the people saying this were quite vocal and open about their support for the NO side. How hypocritical is that?
I heard some great arguments from the No-side and totally understand the sentiment. Some Yes side argument and points I do not agree with. But My vote is unshakably to repeal the 8th amendments.
And there are so many people who have nothing to say other than to hurl abuse. Then you realized not many people really know how to be human once religious prejudiced is removed.
Their Souls and hearts are quite empty!
So many people are out there who says one thing and do another. We all can talk. But how many actually know what they are talking about?
So my message today to you is this–
If you are afraid to live your life just because some people won’t approve, believe me, you are living their lives and not yours.
I stand up for what I believe in. I respect others opinion, but I don’t let them dictate my life.
My life is mine!
Stay with me,
Ruka
